Welcome to iNaturalist Plant Map

By default, we're showing 10,000 plant observations to ensure optimal performance.

To view all 500,000+ observations, click the "Show All Data" button in the navigation bar.

Help & Guide

Map Navigation

  • 2D Map View: Click "Map" in the navigation bar to view the map
  • Zoom: Use mouse wheel, pinch gestures, or zoom controls to zoom in/out
  • Pan: Click and drag to move around the map
  • Marker Clusters: Markers are grouped into clusters when zoomed out. Click to zoom in and expand clusters
  • Markers: Click on any marker to see detailed information about that plant observation

Filters

  • Access Filters: Click the "Filter" button in the navigation bar
  • Country Filter: Select a specific country to view observations from that region
  • Season Filter: Filter observations by season (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter)
  • Family Filter: Filter by plant family (e.g., Rosaceae, Asteraceae)
  • Species Filter: Search for specific plant species by name
  • Apply Filters: Click "Apply Filters" to update the map with your selections
  • Reset: Click "Reset" to clear all filters and return to default view
  • Close Panel: Click outside the filter panel or use the X button to close it

Data Display

  • Default View: Shows 10,000 observations for optimal performance
  • Show All Data: Click "Show All Data" button to load all 500,000+ observations
  • Loading Time: Loading all data may take 1-3 minutes based on your connection
  • Map: Can display all records efficiently using marker clustering
  • Visible Count: The statistics panel shows how many observations are currently displayed

Reports

  • Access Reports: Click "Reports" in the navigation bar
  • Overview: General statistics about the dataset
  • Geographic: Distribution by countries and regions
  • Temporal: Distribution by time, seasons, and dates
  • Taxonomic: Distribution by plant families, genera, and species
  • Species Diversity: Analysis of species diversity by country

Tips & Performance

  • Caching: The application uses caching for faster load times on repeated queries
  • Filter First: Use filters to narrow down results before showing all data
  • Marker Clusters: Zoom in to see individual markers from clusters
  • Data Limits: Default 10k limit ensures smooth performance on all devices
  • Browser Compatibility: Works best on modern browsers with WebGL support for 3D view
